"OPTICAL GLASS AND SPECIAL OPTICAL MATERIALS"
SCHOTT AG of Mainz, Germany will offer a free Workshop on
Wednesday 22 March 2017, 1300- 1700 on the UPM campus, the day preceding ESODM-2017 in cooperation with ESODM-2017. Attendees need not be ESODM-2017 attendees.
Optical glass is a key material for general technology. It is the material providing the essential function of imaging in precision optics, a ubiquitous discipline in scientific research, development, diagnosis and metrology in production processes.
SCHOTT offers a detailed introduction to optical glass and an overview about special optical glass, optical filters and the zero-expansion glass ceramic - Zerodur.
The presentations will treat:
- Basic properties of glass structure, phase transition and transformation temperature range
- Definition of optical glass and optical glass types. Glass types program: eco, classical, low Tg and high transmittance glass, glass types development trends
- Optical glass properties: refractive index, dispersion, homogeneity, transmittance, bubbles and inclusions, striae and stress birefringence appearance, specification and measurement.
- The production process, melting and tempering process, called fine annealing, and how they influence glass properties.
- An overview of optical material optimized for special requirements with their main properties and applications: colored glass and coated glass filters, infrared transmitting glasses, laser active glass types, ZERODUR,....
